Deskpro EN-01:
This one I bought second hand of Luc Degroote in 1999 ???,
it was quite cheap (35000 Belgian francs) his new VGA card
(he paid big bucks for) didn’t fit in it.
Mainboard is off course Compaq
Pentium III @ 650 Mhz
128 Mb
10/100 Intel NIC (on board)
ATI Rage Pro Turbo
40x Compaq CD-rom (actually a goldstar)
10 GB HD
The HD died and was replaced with a Maxtor 40Gig @ 5400 Rpm
(Microman: price tag about 11.000 Bfr.)
I inserted my Geforce in it, which did fit because the connector slot was
not full height, it is a petty though that I can’t insert my
Radeon All in Wonder.
I installed an adaptec AHA-2940UW to connect my plexwriter which I made
external by putting it in a case I bought with my Amiga3000
(price tag; plexwriter 13.000 Bfr, AHA-2940 about 4.000 Bfr.).
The adaptec came really cheap because it was a bundled promotion in a
shop in Melle (Gent).
My SoundBlaster Live Player was put in it but went back in my
Pentium2-300 when I bought a SoundBlaster Audigy Player
(Macro-Eke: price tag 6000 Bfr.)
Also inserted was my DXR2 Mpeg decoder to put presentation work on video.
I also upgraded to 256Mb
Inserted a DVD player
This system is still my main computer today
The system today:
Mainboard: Compaq
Pentium III @ 650 Mhz
256Mb Ram
10/100 Intel NIC (on board)
Geforce 256 (32Mb)
Adaptec AHA 2940UW
Creative DXR2 Mpeg Decoder
Toshiba DVD
Maxtor 40 Gig HD @ 5400 Rpm
SoundBlaster Audigy Player
From now on a kind of insanity took over and I started to buy lots of
other stuff.
